In the heart of Opole lies a unique place for language and book lovers—the Foreign Language Library of the Provincial Public Library in Opole. There you will find books in various languages, textbooks, and materials to support the study of Polish and many other languages.

It’s not just about books—language conversation groups and social gatherings are also held there.

It’s a great place for both foreigners and residents of the Opole region who want to develop their language skills and learn about new cultures.

Although many of us associate it mainly with the Ukrainian and Russian languages, the Cyrillic alphabet is also used in other countries, such as Belarus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Interestingly, this alphabet is not limited to Europe – it is also used in some Central Asian countries.

Cyrillic is used in many languages, which is why it has undergone various modifications over the years. This explains the slight differences in the spelling of letters and their pronunciation. Each language has adapted the alphabet to its own needs and sounds.

This is a great example of how language and culture influence each other.

The Opole Provincial Labour Office has received funding for the implementation of a project entitled ‘Opolskie Hospitable II – Supporting the social integration of third-country nationals’. In accordance with the project’s objectives, support is planned for 500 non-EU nationals legally residing in Poland who live, study or work in the Opole Province.

The project implementation period is 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2029.

The goal of the project is the socio-economic integration of 500 foreign nationals in the Opole Province through, amongst other things: acquiring or improving their knowledge of the Polish language, enhancing their professional skills, facilitating access to employment, and strengthening their integration into the local community. The project also aims to raise awareness of intercultural integration and to promote openness and tolerance.

The range of services dedicated to foreign nationals includes, among others, free courses in Polish as a foreign language, including industry-specific Polish, adaptation courses, legal support, psychological support, career guidance, professional training and job placement. The project also envisages the organisation of cultural events aimed at integration, which will strengthen the process of integrating foreigners into the host society, i.e. the region’s residents.

Under the project, 250 people are expected to gain qualifications/skills, whilst 20 people are expected to find employment.

The meeting provided a space for exchanging knowledge, experiences and good practices related to integration activities in the Opolskie Voivodeship. The main topic was the integration of foreigners in Poland in the context of legislative changes – challenges and good practices.

The importance of cross-sector cooperation in building a coherent and effective support system for foreigners in the region was also highlighted
